My Story

I’ve been playing tabletop roleplaying games since the days of 2nd edition, when I was in middle school. I kept playing through college and beyond, though having kids made gaming in person harder. I managed to keep playing virtually, until my kids were old enough that gaming was possible again (as well as playing with them!)

I have played a variety of games, though when I started in-person gaming again in 2012, I gravitated towards 5th edition D&D because it was the easiest game for which I could find a group.

After playing for a few years, I attended PAX Unplugged, a gaming convention centered around all kinds of non-computer games: RPGs, Warhammer, boardgames, etc. There I found miniature painting. I was hooked. With a massive collection of unpainted miniatures at home thanks to Kickstarting Reaper’s Bones miniatures, I could start working my way through and learning how to paint better and better.

A few years later, I had painted all the miniatures I had, and was soon buying more. Now the problem was storage. While the hundreds of medium-sized creatures could fit in a few tackle boxes, the larger miniatures were much harder to store. After filling up my bookshelves, I tested the waters on Etsy, listing a few miniatures for sale. Now, several years on, I’ve got a moderately successful Etsy store, selling both my pre-painted miniatures and doing custom work for people. I’ve learned about 3D printing, which has opened up a whole new world of miniatures to paint, and I’m still running D&D with some of the same people I started with six years ago.

This website is meant to both act as a storefront and a blog post for some of the things I’ve learned from running D&D and miniature painting.
